Nobody Cares About Your Photography
I have a passion for photography. The art of capturing light and composition in a compelling way drives me to be creating. While I enjoy the process and sometimes the resulting image, it doesn’t mean others will. I try to make sure that I am not under the impression that anyone cares about my photography or ever will.
Most of the images I capture aren’t worth the time of day to look at. Even the ones I publish aren’t all at the same level. Looking at anyone’s work you can see images that you could care less about. The ones that stand out and we remember are the really great images and that’s about all. It doesn’t matter that it took a 3 hour hike, standing in the middle of a storm, and techniques that took years to master in post processing. Nobody cares!
I understand that I am talking in absolutes, and that there is a minority of the audience you have that may genuinely care about your photography from process to completion. Today’s social aspect puts content first and story, meaning, brand, etc… after. All that anyone really cares about (most people - if you hate absolutes) is the images that result from your photography if they are any good.
It isn’t worth the battle forcing others to listen to our endless rambling about our art. Show the photographs and let the audience decide if they are good or not. Only then, can we convince anyone to start to care about our photography. The image comes first! No awards, accolades, knowledge, experience, or gear will change that fact.
