Photographing the Milky Way is a unique experience to me. Arriving on location well before sunset to shoot alongside fellow Photographer Kirk Keyes we had about 6 hours to wait to shoot. This surely is the longest time I have been on location by far!
As wild as National Parks may be here in the USA it is a common misconception that these are true wilderness. We look at these treasures of our natural lands, seeing them as icons attracting millions of visitors each year. They are really just that though, natural theme parks with iconic locations meant to amuse visitors.
Being good stewards of the land is not a political choice, it is a responsibility of everyone regardless! We should celebrate our environments as residents of this planet where our choices have a direct impact on its sustainability.
As many pictures as I take of beautiful locations, there is a deeper and darker reason to document these landscapes. Some more than others are in danger of changing rapidly over the next few decades becoming unrecognizable.
I went on a trip in April to Falls Creek Falls on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge in the shadow of Mt. St Helens. It is an epic waterfall with 3 tiers and a massive amount of water cascading over it constantly.
A rather dangerous hike down if you aren't paying attention, but absolutely worth the risk for the wondrous enveloping landscape you can descend into! A gem of the PNW and overlooked component piece of the Columbia River Gorge worthy of the excursion!
Portland Head Lighthouse is a beautiful destination that is absolutely worth a visit if you are willing to make the long trek up north to stunning Portland, Maine, USA.
